Leads the architecture and design of our Debian-based network operating system foundation and Layer 2 interface capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect the Linux OS platform layer (Debian packaging, system initialization, kernel networking, Layer 2 protocols) for large-scale deployments
- Design and implement VLAN (802.1Q), LACP (802.3ad), ARP (RFC 826), NDP (RFC 4861), and LLDP (802.1AB) protocol stacks
- Design Debian packaging, systemd integration, and multi-distribution support (Debian/Ubuntu/Alpine)
- Define APIs for the kernel networking stack and hardware interface integration, and lead interoperability testing
- Design OS hardening and security for attack-surface reduction
- Mentor senior engineers, run code/architecture reviews, and document OS and Layer 2 protocol design decisions
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of Debian Linux system architecture (packaging, kernel configuration, systemd, security hardening)
- Expert knowledge of the Linux kernel networking stack (Netlink, rtnetlink, interface/neighbor management)
- Deep understanding of IEEE 802 Layer 2 protocols (VLAN 802.1Q, LACP 802.3ad/802.1AX, LLDP 802.1AB), ARP, and NDP
- Proven track record shipping production-grade Linux NOS platforms at measurable scale
Nice to Have
- Experience building Linux-based network operating systems or embedded distributions
- Linux kernel networking subsystem contributions
- Multi-vendor network operating system development experience
- Publications or conference presentations on network OS architecture or Layer 2 protocols
