Implements the CLI and configuration database subsystem for our network operating system's command and control layer.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement the CLI command parser, execution engine, and interactive features (tab completion, history, pipe filters)
- Implement configuration datastores (candidate/running/startup), transactional commit/rollback, and validation
- Implement YANG model integration and YANG-to-CLI mapping, with OpenConfig/IETF model support
- Write and test Python/C code, and optimize CLI response time and configuration processing performance
- Mentor 2-3 junior engineers and collaborate with the Principal Engineer and protocol teams on CLI/config integration
Requirements
- Strong understanding of network device configuration and management concepts
- Hands-on experience implementing CLI interfaces or configuration management systems
- Experience with Linux systems programming and scripting
Nice to Have
- Network OS CLI development experience, NETCONF/RESTCONF implementation
- OpenConfig/IETF YANG models, AAA protocols (RADIUS, TACACS+), gRPC and Protocol Buffers
- Configuration templating (Jinja2), automation tools (Ansible, Terraform), CI/CD for CLI testing
