Maintains the Debian-based OS foundation for our network operating system, working under the Principal Engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement Debian packaging (.deb creation, control files, maintainer scripts) and systemd service units for network daemons
- Optimize Linux kernel configuration for routing workloads and implement bootloader integration (U-Boot, GRUB2)
- Implement OS hardening — AppArmor profiles, seccomp filters, CIS benchmark compliance, and privilege separation
- Implement authentication and access control (PAM, SSH hardening, certificate management) and security auditing
- Debug system-level issues with strace/ltrace/perf/ftrace, and profile boot time and resource utilization
- Mentor 2-3 junior engineers on Linux system programming and Debian packaging
Requirements
- 3+ years of software development experience, with 2+ years in Linux system programming or embedded Linux development
- Strong understanding of Linux system architecture, kernel subsystems, and user-space programming
- Hands-on experience with Debian/Ubuntu system administration and package management
- Experience building or maintaining Linux-based embedded systems or appliances
Nice to Have
- Contributions to Linux system software or Debian packaging
- Experience with carrier-grade Linux deployments requiring high availability
- Understanding of network operating system architecture (routing daemons, management planes)
- Understanding of UEFI Secure Boot and TPM integration
