Implements MPLS, traffic engineering, and VPN protocols for our network operating system, under the Principal Engineer's guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement MPLS label switching — label operations, LFIB, and FEC-to-label binding
- Implement LDP (RFC 5036) and RSVP-TE (RFC 3209) for traffic engineering, including fast reroute
- Develop L3VPN (VRF, RD, RT, MP-BGP integration) and L2VPN (VPLS, VPWS, EVPN with VXLAN encapsulation)
- Integrate with IGP/BGP routing protocols and implement MPLS OAM (LSP ping, traceroute)
- Write and test C/C++ code, debug protocol issues with Wireshark/GDB/tcpdump, and profile label-switching throughput
- Mentor 2-3 junior engineers and collaborate with the Principal Engineer on design decisions
Requirements
- 3+ years of software development experience, with 2+ years in network protocol development (MPLS, VPN, or routing protocols)
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals and MPLS concepts
- Hands-on experience implementing or debugging network protocols in production environments
- Experience with the Linux networking stack and systems programming
Nice to Have
- Understanding of Segment Routing over MPLS (SR-MPLS) and SRv6
- Familiarity with EVPN-VXLAN architecture for data center fabrics
- Understanding of traffic engineering and constraint-based routing
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
