Implements the NETCONF protocol server for our network operating system, under a Senior Engineer's guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement NETCONF operations (get, get-config, edit-config, lock/unlock) and RPC message handling (XML parsing/generation)
- Develop datastore operations (candidate/running/startup), error handling, and SSH transport (RFC 6242)
- Parse and validate YANG models (libyang/pyang), and implement YANG-to-XML mapping and the get-schema operation
- Write comprehensive unit tests for each NETCONF operation, including positive/negative/edge cases
- Debug NETCONF sessions with Wireshark and XML analysis, and fix YANG validation and parsing issues
Requirements
- 0-3 years of software development experience (fresh graduates with strong Python/XML skills welcome)
- Strong understanding of XML and data modeling concepts
- Hands-on experience with Python programming and network protocols (coursework or personal projects)
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts (IP addressing, SSH, network management)
Nice to Have
- Network automation projects (NETCONF/RESTCONF) or open-source contributions to network management tools
- Familiarity with RESTCONF (RFC 8040) or gRPC, and automation tools (Ansible, ncclient, netmiko)
- Experience with distributed systems or network protocol projects
